It was dark enough for some of the dark loving crowd, but light enough for those that wanted it, a good compromise. Though some areas of it were a bit darker or lighter then the others. Generally, though the place is more or less off the grid so to speak. When people travel from it they just say their from what ever province best fits them. It had been more a grouping before the great war, but after it, people who were of mixed blood or didn't care about it formed their own settlement amongst woods that slowly grew. Human, Demon, Angel, Elf, Vampire, none of that mattered in this place, it was simply people that wanted to live. Eventually though with it's size a hierarchy emerged that turned more into a monarchy. And Rune was born into the family of the current king and queen, after his fathers parents chose to step down after a few years and retire elsewhere. However, he didn't spend much time in the castle. When he was 6, his parents were killed while they were out of the region, and with his sister being mute and just short of age, left his uncle in charge. There were those that thought it odd, and those who simply followed it because it did happen to others. Then came the night 3 years later when by his account, soldiers from his home kicked in the door and drug his sister away and knocked him out. However, after he ran away at the sound of others commenting on the "botched job with the brat", the story that was told was that slavers had made their way to the outer edge where they were being kept "for safety" and made off with him or worse, and that only his sister they managed to retrieve. He wasn't sure who he could trust at that point. There were soldiers looking for him, but he didn't know who's side they were on, his uncle who seemed to want to start a war, or his that would help him get rid of his uncle that he no longer had a doubt was behind his parents death. He made his way in the general direction his maternal grandmother said she came from, given he barely knew anything of his dads side beyond some races and that he had an aunt that had gone missing, and never met his maternal grandfather. So that was the one person he knew he should be able to trust. The problem though, was that he didn't know where exactly the caves were. Though, there was some measure of luck on his side, as he had passed out along the route she took, and she had not yet heard of any of this. She found him and brought him back and brought him back to good health, and when she heard the story had half a mind to turn the place into a frozen hell for his uncle to rule. However the impact it would have had on her conscience kept her from doing so. He spent then the next 7 years with his grandmother in the caves, learning from her and what not, but slowly word came to him he was still being hunted. Not wanting to be the cause of the caves being found, he chose to leave, and spend the time with a girl he had met. However, just over a year later, he found out just how close they were to him. He came home from being out, and the state she was in, it wasn't hard to guess what the group of men had been up to, and the leader had an almost gleeful look as he ran his blade through her so Rune could watch. At first, Rune broke and couldn't even stand as his for the last time tears ran down his eyes. He didn't hear what they taunted in those few seconds, blaming himself for what happened because she really wasn't a fighter and never should have left her alone. Then..... he snapped. It unleashed an ability his family had, but all he remembers of it s some bits of white light swirling around him before he blacked out in his rage. When he regained consciousness though, he saw the results. It was at that point he understood why his grandmother always taught him to try and not let his emotions rule him the way they did. Though at the sound of people approaching he quickly hid in a hole dug under the floor in case they had found him and covered it just as they opened the door. He was still weary from what happened. From what they said, it was clear they were sent to find them, or had been part of the group but elsewhere. The one other upside being that they assumed that it was a group or the like that attacked them, not him. He was in there for a few hours as they dealt with their own dead. He waited a while longer to be sure before he emerged and finally caught a glimpse of his reflection, his hair now white and his eyes a faded color from the dark green they had been. He spent that night bringing her to the cross fields, not about to bury her near the house where the scum had been buried, and dug the whole and everything, having to come back with a wooden cross he fashioned. Though, he supposed where he put her was more at the edge of where it'd be, not amongst the countless others, and by one of the few nearby trees where there was some few traces of life. He wanted it to be someplace nicer, private, and less likely to be found by his uncle given it was clear he'd do anything to simply make him suffer more. What rage and anger he had held, and the shadowy desires for revenge now became pure hatred and a quest for it. When he came back to the house though, he found hooded and cloaked people raiding it. Though, one looked when he opened the door and exclaimed almost terrified "Shabah" and immediately dropped what he had and put his hands up like he wanted mercy, the two others coming from the upstairs and seeing the scene not sure what to think. Rune asked what they were doing, and the one seemed to understand, but was explaining in his own language. One though, a female apparently translated for him when Rune made it clear he didn't understand a word he was saying. It was then that he found out the one that had stopped what he was doing believed him to be some apparition with the white hair and the tattered cloak covered in mud and blood that haunted the place. They explained when things were sorted out that they were basically a band of thieves and such that more or less formed out of necessity, and had gotten larger of the last few years. The place had seemed recently abandoned and all so they figured it would be an easier target then usual for supplies or things to trade. Like him they and others of the group were mostly orphaned by some means, slavers, murder, abandonment, a few runaways and some that just didn't like authority. With nothing else on his mind beyond survival and revenge, he chose to join them and learn from them what they knew about stealth, fighting, anything that could help him. They agreed, seeing as he was also letting them have most of the supplies in the place, leaving only a few that would keep in case they or he chose to stay there at anytime. He grabbed a couple items he wanted to take, including finding a pendent she had worn all the time, "to protect her". It made him wonder because this had been the one day she hadn't worn it, and her talk of everyone having their roles as if she knew something. But he pushed it aside, chance was always an option, but he still took it and wore it. A little possible luck was never a bad thing. Before they left the house, they asked if he had a preference in name for them to use, other then his own given save for in private company they trusted, they never used their real names. He told them that "Shabah" felt like a good fit at the time, and they agreed that was what they would call him. And with that, he was off the grid again, using really only that name and not his true name. He hoped that it would slowly help reduce his uncles attempts at finding him, adding to it a year later with a cross next to hers with just his first name, partially because he did feel in that sense, that part of him was dead, and that if they did find it, they might believe he died as well later on. He's learned a great deal n the last 5 years, and while the money is good, and having gotten shots at those loyal to his uncle and his views, that much better, he feels it's time for some more....legitimate work. While he has to intention of fully severing ties, they are good connections, a legit job might better hide him.
